Dear clients and partners,

I am delighted to share with you the results of the rebranding process we have just gone through.

After a decade of strong international growth, we felt the need to reflect on our journey and to agree on the foundation of DHI's future success. We've sought inspiration from our clients, our board members and our own people. I would like to thank all the contributors for their invaluable inputs. It is truly inspiring, when you're inside an organisation, to get a glimpse of the outside-in perspective and to see the realm of opportunities.

We've listened carefully, thought hard and discussed candidly. The result is hopefully an even better DHI - better for you, better for water environments and better for us.

In this special issue of our newsletter, you will discover our new visual identity, our new tagline and two new brands we're introducing to improve accessibility to our knowledge and our technology.

Enjoy.

Asger Kej
CEO

FROM OLD TO NEW – THE TRANSFORMATION

Our journey began nearly 50 years ago with the foundation of the Danish Hydraulic Institute. At that time, our only focus was hydraulics – the physics of water. We specialised in currents and waves. All our staff were located in Denmark. At this point in time, our visual identity – a blue wave within a square – reflected our prevailing identity. Thirty five years of organic growth followed, with the number of our people totalling 200 – still very much concentrated in Denmark and focused on hydraulics.

In the year 2000, a merger expanded our expertise beyond hydraulics. We augmented our services to encompass water chemistry and ecology as well. Consequently, our logo and tagline were adjusted to mirror this evolution. At this point in time, the vast majority of our staff was still centred in Denmark.

Over the next twelve years, we have steadily expanded – our footprint is much larger and our presence more robust. Today, our staff strength totals 1,100 globally – 350 in Denmark and 750 internationally.

We define water environments as all the interfaces between water and human activity. Today, our competencies cover the entire spectrum of water environments, including health services. This has effectively positioned us as the expert in water environments.

THE LOGO

With our new focus and positioning, the need for a new identity arose. We had many discussions with our colleagues to define today's DHI. We also received precious inputs from our clients and partners about how we create value for them. That's how our new branding came about and our new logo was born – a precise representation of our transformation.

We wanted to stay true to our successful origins – to nearly 50 years of accumulated knowledge in water environments. That's why the three letters 'D' 'H' and 'I' still feature prominently in our logo. Its shape, strokes and shades represent the world of water.

OUR COMPANY PROFILE

The foundation of our future success is our constant effort to advance knowledge and share it globally – with our clients, our partners and society at large. This is key to our quest – to solve challenges in water environments worldwide. This is what our company profile is written to relay.

DHI are the first people you should call when you have a tough challenge to solve in a water environment. Whether it be a river, a reservoir, an ocean, a coastline, within a city or a factory.

Our world is water, and our knowledge of water environments is second-to-none. It represents 50 years of dedicated research, and real-life experience from more than 140 countries. We strive to make this knowledge globally accessible to clients and partners by channelling it through our local teams and unique software.

So whether you need to save water, share it fairly, improve its quality, quantify its impact or manage its flow, we can help. Our knowledge, combined with our team's expertise and the power of our technology, hold the key to unlocking the right solution.

OUR BRANDS

It is crucial for us to make our global knowledge and innovative technology accessible, comprehensible and relevant to local challenges. We are structuring and consolidating our brand platform to reflect and support this effort.

For more than 25 years, we have delivered our global knowledge to water professionals around the globe with our MIKE by DHI software. Our MIKE by DHI product family encapsulates more knowledge and covers a wider range of water modelling needs than any competitors. They are available in numerous sizes, flavours and languages – and most recently also in the cloud. It has never been easier to access MIKE by DHI software.

In addition to this brand, we are introducing two new ones – MIKE Customised by DHI and The Academy by DHI.

Over and above our MIKE by DHI software, we are presenting MIKE Customised by DHI – a unique toolbox that focuses on building decision support systems where each system is unique, but the tools to build them are generic. MIKE Customised by DHI solutions range from small and simple single-user applications to systems supporting hundreds of simultaneous worldwide users. Many of these systems are powered by MIKE by DHI.

We have developed the MIKE Customised by DHI software platform over the past three years. It currently serves a large number of clients and projects. MIKE Customised by DHI combines the flexibility of an open software development platform with the benefits of more standardised products and solutions. With this toolbox, it becomes possible to offer cost-effective and manageable solutions which are tailored to specific workflows and business processes.

The value of knowledge truly emerges, when it is appropriately utilised to solve challenges.

We founded The Academy by DHI with a specific purpose – to make our global knowledge of water environments accessible and useful.

The Academy by DHI covers all our global knowledge building and training activities. Each year, we arrange hundreds of courses, which thousands of professionals attend and learn from. These courses range from thematic workshops to hard core training in the use of specific software tools. More than 200 certified MIKE by DHI software trainers deliver these courses, trainings and workshops.

The Academy by DHI is also a platform that enables individuals to share their knowledge via conferences, meetings and interactive forums.

To constantly develop knowledge and make it useful, it is necessary to collaborate with universities and educate new generations of water professionals. Under the unified umbrella of The Academy by DHI, we work extensively with numerous universities worldwide.

The Academy by DHI helps water professionals create value by making more informed decisions and improving their skills. Ultimately, that will lead to improved water environments. That is our quest.

Welcome to DHI UK

DHI is an independent, international consulting and research organisation with the global objective of advancing technological development and competence with respect to water, in all of its environments.

Worldwide, we offer a wide range of consulting services and leading edge technologies, software tools, environmental laboratories, and physical model test facilities, as well as field surveys and monitoring programmes. Designated as a not-for-profit organisation, DHI is able to invest a considerable portion of its resources in research and development. Today we co-operate with many Universities, and research organisations, and are recognised globally for our innovation and expertise.

In the UK, DHI offers niche or specialist consultancy services in the water and environment market to government agencies, commercial entities and selected research organisations. We fulfil a research based specialist advisor role; a ‘Consultant to the Consultants’. We also supply and support the renowned MIKE by DHI suite of integrated water modelling tools.

MIKE by DHI software is the result of years of experience and dedicated development and has, in many regions, become the standard modelling tool. It transforms our science into practice and gives you the competitive edge and, through the DHI Academy, you can rest assured that there is a local team of highly skilled experts committed to train and support you every step of the way.

MIKE by DHI truly models the world of water - from mountain streams to the ocean and from drinking water to treatment plant and beyond.
